- Turbodiesel and electric power
- Zero emissions for around 30 miles
- 128mpg potential
Green just got fast - and open-topped - as Audi reveals its e-tron Spyder concept at the Paris Motor Show. The e-tron Spyder uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel engine driving the rear wheels, combined with two electric motors driving the front wheels. This hybrid powertrain, which features plug-in electric power, allows the e-tron Spyder to offer a potential fuel consumption figure of 128mpg.

What's all the fuss about?Paris 2010: Audi e-tron SpyderThat headline grabbing 128mpg figure is even more impressive when you consider the performance potential on offer. The e-tron Spyder can accelerate to 62mph in 4.4 seconds and is electronically limited to 155mph. It's little more than a drop-top version of the e-tron concept coupé we've seen previously, but there's no denying it looks sensational, and if green motoring really can look like this then the future's bright indeed. A 30-mile range on electricity alone means it's a supercar you can use on your daily commute, with the performance to really enjoy it at the weekend.
What makes it so green?
The combination of fuel-sipping turbodiesel power and that pair of electric motors on the front axle help, as does its aluminium spaceframe construction. An unusual mix of green technology and supercar performance demonstrates that green can be enormous fun.
Estimated release date: This one's a concept for the foreseeable future.
Estimated cost: In concept guise its cost is incalculable, though it'll feature six zeros."
