The United Nations General Assembly

Acknowledging that modern medicine has not found remedies or solutions for many health ills and diseases,

Understanding the need for people to want and have a peaceful and dignified death,
Acknowledging the feelings of terminally and chronically ill patients and the difficult situation they and their close contacts are subjected to,
Recognizing that religious and cultural sensitivity must be considered in taking this issue forward,
Mindful of the health economics factors, particularly the cost of sustaining the terminally and chronically ill,
Acknowledging  the need to balance the request for the right to die and the reasonable concerns of patients who prefer more interventionist treatments,
1.     Requests that governments have legislations that draw a clear line between euthanasia and suicide;
2.     Calls for liberalization of laws on assisted dying and for recognizing a right to a dignified death as a fundamental human right;
3.     Encourages member states to use educational and media outlets to promote the importance of quality of life in a globalised technological society;
4.     Encourages closer cooperation between providers of end of life care such as hospices and organ transplantation departments in hospitals to increase the efficient use of resources and improve quality of life overall;
5.     Demands the formation of a regulatory body under the auspices of OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights) to deal with this matter;
6.     Asks for the creation of an international public relations committee to include and engage with all stakeholders such as religious bodies, ethnic or cultural representatives and humanists;
